Eligibility FAQs
During the Job Seeker registration process, once the Job Seeker's demographics are completed, their eligibility for programs is immediately determined. However, states can set eligibility to expire within a specified number of days. Most have eligibility set to expire in 45 days. This means that if the Job Seeker's demographics and eligibility date were updated 50 days ago, and they were eligible for certain programs but were not enrolled, the eligibility is expired and must be re-assessed.
The following are frequently asked questions about eligibility.
Q: My Job Seeker was enrolled in WIOA Adult 6 months ago and is still active, but AJL shows that she is not eligible. How can she not be eligible for the program in which she's enrolled?
A: The Job Seeker must be eligible at the time she is enrolled. The expired eligibility has no effect on the Job Seeker's participation as long as she remains active. AJL takes an Eligibility Snapshot to document eligibility at the time of enrollment, for each enrollment. To view the Eligibility Snapshot, go to Enrollment Details.
Q: My Job Seeker is enrolled in WIOA Dislocated Worker. Now I want to enroll him in a 15% project, but he isn't eligible. How do I add a new enrollment to an existing open program registration if AJL shows he isn't eligible?
A: Review the demographics and make updates as necessary. When you save, the eligibility date will be updated and AJL will assess the Job Seeker's eligibility. To add a new enrollment to an open program registration, select the name of the program (e.g., Adult 15%) and follow the same process as adding a new program registration/enrollment.
Q: What makes a job seeker qualify as low income?
A: A job seeker is designated as low income if they answer Yes to any of the questions on the Low Income page.
Q: I reviewed the demographics and they are current. I don't have anything to update. How can I re-assess eligibility if all of the demographics are the same as before?
A: If none of the answers to demographics need to be updated, select Save on any page, and the system should update the eligibility date and assess eligibility for the Job Seeker.
Q: I've interviewed the Job Seeker and collected eligibility documentation, and I know my job seeker is eligible, but AJL says she's NOT eligible. Should I contact my supervisor or AJLA Coordinator to report this as a system issue?
A: Before reporting the issue, review all of the relevant data according to the information in Eligibility By Enrollment. Often mistakes are made entering date of birth or Selective Service. Also check the eligibility date to ensure that the date is current. If not, enter a current date and then check eligibility again.
